Ketogenic Diet

New questions were asked about a ketogenic diet in many of my patients.

Is it safe to eat ketogenic? Will you say that? Despite the recent speculation, there is no new ketogenic diet. In medicine we use it for nearly 100 years, in particular in children, to treat drug-resistant epilepsy. In the 1970s low carbon diet for weight loss, which started at a rigid ketogenic period of two weeks.

Over the years, a similar approach to weight loss has been implemented in other fad diets.

What is a ketogenic (keto) diet?

By fact, the body releases ketones to the bloodstream through a diet. Most cells tend to use glucose blood sugar as their main energy source.

In the absence of blood sugar flowing from the diet, accumulated fat becomes a proteins called ketone bodies. When ketosis has achieved, most cells use ketone bodies to generate energy before we begin to eat carbohydrates again. The transformation from circulating glucose to decomposing stored fat is typically less than 20 to 50 g of carbohydrate per day in two to four days.

Remember that this mechanism is extremely individualised, and some individuals will have to start producing more ketones by a more controlled diet.

Because there is no food, there is abundant protein and fat in a ketogenic diet. The foods, eggs, processed meats, sausages, cheeses, fish, nuts, butter, oils and fibrous vegetables are common. It's really difficult to follow because it's so restricting in the long run. Carbohydrates usually represent at least 50% of the average US diet.A major criticism of this diet is that there are very little fruit and vegetables that continue to eat far too much protein for weight loss and poor quality fat in processed food.

Kidney patients need to be vigilant as their condition can worsen. Several patients may also feel very exhausted at first, while others may have problems with bad air, diarrhea, noise, constipation, and fatigue.

Is a ketogenic diet healthy?

We provide solid evidence that a ketogenic diet decreases infant hallucinations, as well as drugs, often. As a result of these neuroprotective effects, the potential benefits of other brain disorders including Parkinson and Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis, sleep disorders, schizophrenia and even brain cancer have been increased. No human studies to endorse ketosis for the treatment of these problems are, however, current.

The main reason my doctors use the ketogenic diet is because of weight loss. Earlier research found that patient diets are better than those with more conventional low-fat diets or even a Mediterranean diet when used as a ketogenic or low carbohydration weight loss. But this weight loss disparity tends to be fading over time.

For people with type 2 diabetes, at least in the short term, a ketogenic diet has proven to boost blood sugar control. When we consider the impact on cholesterol levels there is even more controversy.Several studies show that some patients initially experienced an increase in cholesterol levels, but only a few months later were cholesterol reduced. Yet long-term work does not examine the impact on diabetes and high cholesterol over time.

Ketogenic diet review

A ketogenic diet can be an interesting alternative and can accelerate weight loss in certain circumstances.

Yet red meat and other oily, fried and salty foods that are historically un nutritious are difficult to follow and can be high. They do learn little about their longer-term effects, probably because people can not live this way for a long time because it's so hard to stick with.

It is also important to remember that the increased mortality associated with «yo-yo diets» can lead to rapid weight loss fluctuations.

Instead of adopting the next common diet, which would only last for a few weeks to months (for most people with a ketogenic diet), try to adopt sustainable changes on a long-term basis.A balanced, unprocessed diet, rich in very colorful fruits and vegetables, lean meats, fish, whole grains, nuts, seeds, olive oil, and lots of water seems to have the best evidence for a long, healthier, vibrant life.
